Founded in the late 1970s by the late Bill Collings in Texas, Collings Guitars is the flagship of American manufacturing. While the brand now uses modern manufacturing processes, it makes no compromises: every element is carefully selected and every detail is given special attention, so much so that the quality of the models produced systematically exceeds that of the most renowned Custom Shops.
The CJ, for Collings Jumbo, is Collings' interpretation of a well-known Gibson slope shoulders. Although the CJ is similar in width and depth to the traditional model, it has a distinctly different sound. Despite its large size, this model works well with a shorter 24.75" scale, resulting in a punchy bottom end, ideal for acoustic blues or other styles that benefit from a more controlled bass response.
The wood species are of course fabulous, and the build quality of this guitar is amazing. Collings is known for building instruments with a level of craftsmanship that guarantees the use of the highest grade parts. The Sitka spruce top provides long sustain and powerful projection, and the Indian rosewood back and sides produce a warmth that envelops the abundance of overtones, resulting in a rich, articulate sound. The classic mahogany neck and ebony fingerboard pairing provides a playing feel that allows you to focus completely on the touch, as this is a guitar you don't have to fight against.
We're especially pleased that our model is a masterful representation of Collings' craftsmanship, and can only recommend this guitar to players who are looking for an instrument that is comfortable to play, elegant (because frankly, you could almost steal Elton John's thunder with this guitar), and most importantly, will sound better than almost anything else in its class.
