For many enthusiasts, C.F. Martin & Co. has been creating the most beautiful guitars in the world for over 180 years. The company has innovated by using manufacturing techniques and features that have become standards, including the X-bracing, the fourteenth fret body/ neck joint and the Dreadnought format. Faithful to the founder's approach, the company continues to employ artisanal processes and a highly skilled workforce. Today, more contemporary designs and approach allow Martin to maintain its reputation as the world leader in professional acoustic guitar making, without sacrificing its core models and legendary quality.

The OM-28 combines the best of both worlds: traditional sound and aesthetics with modernity. The OM-28's design is typically emblematic of the legendary pre-war Martin designs, but with a thinner neck and adjustable truss rod. A stained patina and a high gloss polished varnish are applied to the Sitka spruce top, edged with chevrons and solidified by 63mm thick scalloped soundboard bars. The same varnish is used for the Indian rosewood body which is edged with an Ivorette trim for the binding of the sides and spine. The modern ovalized and thin neck is that of the Performing Artist line, with a taper ranging from 44.5mm at the saddle to 55.6mm at the bridge.

The vintage look is enhanced by the choice of Waverly openworked mechanics, a rosewood headstock on which the old-fashioned Martin & Co. logo decal is displayed. The OM differs from the 000 on the one hand functionally by a longer scale (645mm instead of 634mm) giving it better dynamics, and on the other hand aesthetically by this tear-shaped cover plate, typical of the thirties.
