Designed in direct collaboration with Dr. Z, the Z-Wreck Module is not a simple "inspired-by" preamp. It captures the spirit of the original amplifier, with the lively dynamics inherited from Ken Fischer’s design philosophy and the incisive clarity that made the Z Wreck famous. The tonal territory is clearly chimey British, sitting between a very muscular AC30 and an ultra-responsive boutique amp, with dynamics that follow every nuance of the player’s touch.
The true defining feature of this module is the integration of an onboard "0-watt" power amp stage. This section recreates the compression, behaviour and depth of a driven power amp, where most modules stop at the preamp stage. The result is immediate under the fingers: greater depth, more movement, and a feel remarkably close to a real amplifier, even within a modular setup. The two identical channels allow one to be set for a pushed clean and the other for a more expressive drive, with natural, balanced transitions between the two.
The Speed/Comfort switch directly affects the playing feel. Speed delivers a fast, tight attack with increased headroom and a more modern response. Comfort softens the overall feel, adds a touch of compression and makes the tone more vocal, almost elastic. From shimmering clean to lively crunch and organic overdrive, the module covers a wide spectrum while remaining exceptionally articulate, whether in modern country, classic rock, pop or related styles.
