Founded in 1976 by David Schecter, Schecter Guitars Research is an American guitar maker that started by producing guitar parts. Crafted mainly in the United States and in Korea, Schecter guitars have been seen in the hands of musicians such as Pete Townshend, Prince, Mark Knopfler and Jeff Loomis. The quality of the Korean production is akin to that of many American or Japanese ones. Quite metal-oriented, Schecter guitars have earned a completely legitimate fame thanks to great build-quality, original designs and very typical tones.
The Schecter C-1 Standard Blood Burst simply does not pretend. Its mahogany body with flamed maple top, red-to-black finish and black hardware make the intention clear: this is a modern, direct guitar, built to take gain without turning muddy. The double-cutaway shape stays sober and efficient, with a flat-top construction and a hardtail bridge that avoids unnecessary complications. Plug in, tune up, play.
The neck uses a roasted maple and Purpleheart construction, reinforced with carbon rods, giving it a real sense of stability, and actual stability too. The Thin C profile is fast. With a 25.5" scale length, 14" radius and 24 jumbo frets, the C-1 Standard is clearly at home with tight riffs, wide bends, upper-register lines, legato and fast playing. The tension stays firm, which helps preserve definition in lower tunings or under heavy saturation.
Sound-wise, the two Schecter Diamond Standard passive humbuckers do the job with a simple, muscular approach. The bridge pickup delivers compact rhythm tones, with attack and enough output for modern rock, metal, punk or alternative. The neck pickup adds more thickness for leads, darker cleans or bluesy lines with light gain. The middle position remains useful for fuller clean sounds. No frills here either: volume, tone, three-way selector. This is a fantastic machine for amps that bite.
