Founded in the mid-1970s, Schecter initially established itself as a manufacturer of aftermarket guitar parts, specializing in Fender components. Building on its success, the company began producing Custom guitars for players such as Mark Knopfler and Pete Townshend. Now under Japanese management, Schecter offers two complementary ranges: a USA Custom Shop production aimed at professional musicians, and an Asian-made range whose modern designs and build quality have played a major role in establishing the brand's reputation among rock and metal guitarists.
With the C-1 Apocalypse Red Reign, Schecter isn't trying to reinvent the all-purpose electric guitar. This is clearly a weapon designed for modern metal, down-tuned playing and unforgiving rhythm work. The swamp ash body provides a sharp attack and excellent definition, while the set maple and padauk neck, reinforced with carbon fiber rods, delivers stability and sustain. The string-through Hipshot hardtail bridge favors simplicity, precision and tuning stability.
The Thin C neck is relatively slim and fast, with an Ultra Access heel that genuinely improves access to the highest frets. The ebony fingerboard with its 12-to-16-inch compound radius and 24 extra-jumbo stainless steel frets is designed for technically demanding players: easy bends, fast passages and precise playing all the way up the neck. Locking tuners complete a setup built to handle intensive use.
The two passive Schecter USA Apocalypse-VI humbuckers offer plenty of character and output. The bridge pickup delivers tight lows, aggressive mids and a precise attack, essential for fast riffs and heavy distortion. The neck pickup retains warmth and definition for lead work, even with substantial gain. The push-pull control allows the pickups to be split for cleaner, sharper tones. The satin Red Reign finish, with its red and black patterns, makes the intention clear: this Schecter was never designed to blend into the background.
