Music Man history begins in the early 70's, when Leo Fender, just off the Company he founded 5 years ago, starts to think that his future might be a new Company called Music Man. Tireless worker, Leo kicks off his new activity in 1972 by building is first instrument, a new bass, obviously. It is the beginning of Music Man bass. There will be amps, electric guitars, etc. Relying on 20 years of experience, Leo builds awesome instruments, and amongst them the active Sting Ray bass, that shortly after its introduction becomes an absolute reference in the music world.
Ernie Ball Music Man's StingRay Special 4 bass combines the resonance of an ash body with the comfort of a maple neck (with its famous gun oil finish that makes it ultra-playable) to deliver a punchy, dynamic, overtone-rich sound through active electronics. The humbuckers and the possible adjustments bring tonal diversity that can be obtained, and the roasted maple asserts itself particularly by a slightly clearer timbre, and a stability to any test.
The active preamp and 3-band equalizer allow you to adjust your sound even more finely. The finishes are impeccable (Ernie Ball does a really good job). As for the look, it is timeless. No wonder the Sting Ray has become a standard for professional bass players around the world.
