The Martin GPC-X2E Ziricote is clearly designed as a serious working instrument, with no ambiguity about its construction. The back and sides are not solid ziricote, but ziricote-pattern HPL, a stable, dense material that is less sensitive to humidity changes. The solid sapele top provides the essential vibrating surface, combined with a restrained satin finish and a Grand Performance cutaway body shape well suited to stage use, rehearsals and everyday playing.
The feel is distinctly modern. The GPC format offers more openness than a small-bodied guitar, without the bulk of a dreadnought. The cutaway opens up access to the upper register, the Performing Artist select hardwood neck remains easy to handle, and the beveled-edge fingerboard gives a softer feel under the fingers. With its 16" radius and 20 frets, this Martin suits precise accompaniment, fingerstyle, extended voicings and players who want an acoustic guitar that does not fight the fretting hand.
Sonically, the solid sapele top delivers a focused response, with present mids, controlled lows and a clear attack. This is not a vintage-style all-solid Martin, and that is not its purpose.
