The Lakland USA Series 55-64 Custom Vintage PJ is a premium interpretation of the Precision/Jazz concept in a 5-string format. Built in the USA to boutique-level standards, it combines a very classic aesthetic with modern playability. This is a thoroughly professional instrument, equally at home on stage and in the studio, with particular attention paid to low-end definition and strong punch.

 

The alder body provides a natural balance, with full lows, solid mids and clear highs. The bolt-on maple neck paired with a rosewood fingerboard offers a comfortable, familiar feel, while the long 35” scale ensures excellent B-string definition, remaining tight and readable even in demanding situations. The compound radius makes the bass equally comfortable for walking lines and fingerstyle, slap playing, or more technical work higher up the neck.

 

The Custom Vintage PJ configuration is built around simple, effective passive electronics: a split-coil Precision-style pickup for foundation and roundness, complemented by a Jazz-style single-coil at the bridge for attack and definition. Soloed, the P pickup delivers a massive low end that sits firmly in the mix; blending in the J tightens the sound and adds articulation, ideal for funk, modern rock or fusion contexts. The sound stays alive and mobile, following the player’s touch rather than constraining it, even in demanding contexts.
