Fender’s Custom Shop instruments represent the highest standards in craftsmanship, from wood selection to pickup winding, finishes and hardware. The result: reliable guitars with unique character, tonal excellence and exceptional playability.
Some Telecasters simply get the job done, others leave a mark. This one belongs in the latter category. From the very first notes, it’s clear you’re dealing with something special: a perfect balance of bite, clarity, dynamic response and projection. The lightweight two-piece ash body is vibrant and lively, delivering fast attack, a touch of natural compression and sweet open mids. Nothing sterile, just a guitar that feels alive.
The rift sawn maple neck features a 60 Style Oval “C” profile that feels instantly familiar. It’s reminiscent of late-’50s necks, with just the right amount of mass to support expressive playing. The dark AAA rosewood fretboard adds a smoothness to the feel and tone, while the compound 7.25"-9.5" radius offers effortless playability across the board. 6105 frets, narrow but tall, give you clean bends and precise control.
Tonally, this Tele doesn’t shy away from anything. We tested it through three very different amps, a clean, 3D Magnatone, a British-voiced Morgan AC, and a Friedman Dirty Shirley with US rock grit, and it shone every time. It’s articulate without being harsh, responsive but never edgy, always musical. The Custom Shop ’58 hand-wound pickupsreact with nuance to picking dynamics: the bridge pickup has snap without sting, the neck pickup is warm, vocal and articulate.
The electronics follow a Fat ’50s Tele wiring, offering subtle interaction between volume and tone without dulling the signal. The rest is equally consistent: a vintage-style 3-saddle bridge, relic’d tuners, 8-screw parchment pickguard and a thin nitro flashcoat finish in Aged White Blonde. Elegant, coherent, but never showy.
