This special 30th-anniversary edition features a stunning Sapphire Blue finish with a fully hand-engraved ‘Grand Galaxy’ design, which is more intricate than the standard engravings.
Cannonball was created in 1996 by Tevis and Sheryl Laukat, both saxophonists and vintage saxophone connoisseurs. The idea came about while doing experimental acoustic research on instruments they had available. The results convinced them to offer instruments that differed from those available. Today Cannonball not only has two exclusive factories in Taiwan, but also owns a warehouse and finishing houses in the in Utah (USA), by Salt Lake City. This is where the instruments are assembled, engraved, checked, tested and tuned. The Big Bell series was created in 2001 and aims to recapture the wide, warm sound of vintage American instruments.
The Cannonball Big Bell Stone Standard tenor saxophone, created by Cannonball in 2001, enhances the ability to create a wide range of dynamics for a deep sound and a tone that allows access to a wide range of tonal colors. The increased size allows for a big, warm sound. It has a particularly fine finish, and comes with two jars, the second being a FAT Neck model on which the octave tube is on the bottom. This produces an effect that brings out the midrange and bass. The ease of play is impressive, and more than compensates for the loss of comfort due to the size of the instrument.
