The Little Legend 20 is a true rock amp—think 60s–70s stadium rock—but in a compact format with power levels suited to modern playing conditions. In both tone and controls, it is straightforward, direct, and immediately in the British grain. AmS designed this head as a “modern Plexi” in a portable format, with Belgian hand-built construction and a clean, understated aesthetic. The clean tone is minimal, slightly gritty, ready to flip into crunch as soon as the picking hand digs in or the guitar volume rises.
The preamp relies on three 6N2P valves, very close to 12AX7s, giving fast gain under the fingers and a biting midrange. The real engine, however, is the pair of cathode-biased EL84s: they add natural compression as the master climbs, producing a sharp, lively attack, tight low mids and bright, assertive highs. The controls provide enough range to shape the character precisely: gain, 3-band EQ, presence, low punch, 3-way bright switch and Fat mode, allowing adaptation to the guitar in use. The series effects loop keeps delays and reverbs cleanly placed after the preamp’s drive.
In use, the Little Legend 20 covers everything from crunch to full rock saturation, with immediate response to the guitar’s volume. The tone stays articulated, mid-focused and tense—ideal for AC/DC, classic hard rock, muscular blues rock or a drier modern rock voice. With a Tube Screamer in front, it reaches gain levels suited to certain metal styles. Light, compact, and capable of holding its place in a mix with a good 1×12 or 2×12, it is a grab-and-go amp for players who want Marshall character without threatening their ears or their back.
