The Precious Tones Sapphire V2 50W Head is the most directly blues-rock-oriented head in the Precious Tones range. A single-channel amp, but not a basic one, and offers a wide clean foundation, firm response, and overdrive that comes from touch rather than soft compression. Swiss-made, handwired, and available in Switzerland exclusively through Servette-Music. With its 6L6 power section, the Sapphire V2 sits in a familiar American tonal family: solid blackface/dumble clean, thicker grain when pushed, and mids that cut through without getting harsh. The clean range is full and open, with clear attack and strong chord definition. As gain and master come up, the amp moves into broad, lively crunch, clearly at home in SRV, Philip Sayce, tense blues/rock and organic rock territory.
The Rough control is central to the amp’s feel. It progressively reduces the influence of the tone stack, allowing more signal, more mids, more perceived volume and more drive. Set low, the amp stays cleaner and more controlled. Set higher, it becomes more direct and more aggressive, with a denser attack under the picking hand. This is a control to work with the guitar, the guitar volume and the cabinet, not just a simple boost.
The Sapphire V2 adds deep voicing options to shape the amp’s response. Switching between full/half powerworks very well and keeps the firmness of the sound. The voltage and operation modes, from hi-fi (20% or 40%) depending on the setting, move the amp between a warmer, more compressed response and a cleaner, more precise, more linear base. Multiple negative feedback settings further adjust grain, thickness and tightness, especially useful when changing guitars or speakers.
The Diamond selector, or its related voicings depending on configuration, lets the player move between clear blackface foundations, thicker Sapphire-style density and more pushed Diaz/SRV-inspired responses. With pedals, the amp keeps its structure: overdrive, fuzz, delay and modulation remain clear without flattening the dynamics. This is a head for players who like to fine-tune their sound, but mainly want the amp to respond fast.
