In the tightly curated world of boutique amplifiers, the Phoenix Fury stands out as a high-precision tool for demanding guitarists. Inspired by classic D-style circuits but updated with modern versatility, it offers a chimey clean channel, a fluid overdrive channel, and a dynamic response that puts the focus entirely on your playing. The 50W version, powered by two 6L6s, delivers ample volume with studio-friendly control.
The two channels are cascaded, each with its own Gain and Ratio control, the latter acting as a subtle, transparent master volume. You can dial in seamless transitions between clean and lead without sacrificing character. Add to that a lush tube-driven spring reverb with separate Send and Return controls, and you’ve got ambience that feels deep and organic, never washed out.
The FET input adds a discrete transistor stage ahead of the preamp, functioning like a natural clean boost. It brings out extra attack from single-coils or tightens up humbuckers without colouring your tone or choking dynamics.
Tonally, the amp is shaped via a 3-band EQ and three toggles (Bright, Deep, and Rock/Jazz) which reshape the amp’s core behaviour. Rock mode delivers fast transients and edge; Jazz mode softens the attack and opens the low mids. A passive loop allows for time-based or modulated effects without sacrificing clarity.
Build quality is boutique-grade throughout: compact chassis, clean layout, premium components, full back-panel output options (4, 8, 16 ohms), and a sturdy, stage-ready footswitch. At around 30 lbs (13.6 kg), it’s easy to transport for an all-tube head. What sets the Phoenix Fury apart is its ability to stay articulate and musical at all settings, high gain or clean, loud or soft. It’s touch-sensitive, harmonically rich, and effortlessly expressive. This is an amp that responds to your hands, your guitar, your intent — and rewards nuance every time.
