The Precious Tones Topaze 20W Head brings the Precious Tones architecture into a more compact and usable format, without reducing the sonic intent. This is a 6V6 head rated around 15 to 20 watts, that leans on allowing to work the amp rather than just use it as a clean box. Swiss-made, handwired, and available in Switzerland exclusively through Servette-Music. The 6V6 power section gives the Topaze a softer, more immediate response than the larger models in the range. The clean voice stays articulate, with clear attack, present mids and natural compression arriving earlier. At realistic volume, the amp already starts to breathe. That is exactly the point: fewer watts, more access to the power section’s movement.
The single-channel layout keeps things honest. Set the gain, master and EQ, then work with the guitar, the right hand and pedals. The Topaze takes overdrive, fuzz, delay and modulation very well, but it does not need them to sound alive. With a Strat or Tele, it keeps that clear, tight, American Blackface-like response. With humbuckers, it gets thicker without turning muddy.
The Rough control remains one of the strongest parts of the Precious Tones design. By progressively reducing the influence of the tone stack, it lets more signal through, adding mids, volume and saturation. Set low, the Topaze stays clean, open and highly usable as a pedal platform. Pushed harder, it becomes denser and more urgent, with the grain of a smaller amp driven properly and reacting directly to pick attack.
On the rear panel, the Topaze follows the brand’s advanced control philosophy: power reduction, operating modes, adjustable bias, multiple negative feedback settings and 2, 4 and 8 ohm speaker outputs. These controls let the player adapt the amp to the cabinet, guitar and real-world volume. The Diamond selector further shapes the amp’s input, from clearer blackface-style response to thicker, more modified blues-rock textures. The Topaze does not need to pretend to be a high-gain monster. Its strength is nuance, grain, and the way it responds when pushed just enough.
