Founded in the mid-70s, Schecter first established itself as an aftermarket parts manufacturer, specializing in parts for Fender guitars. Building on its success, the brand then began producing high-end guitars: its specialty are Custom models, built for players like Mark Knopfler, Pete Townsend, Keith Merrow or Michael Anthony. Schecter WAS owned by the owner of the GIT (Guitar Institute of Technology) at one point during its existence, but IT is now under Japanese management. For over 20 years, the brand has now cultivated know-how and attention to detail in the creation of modern-type guitars. It sports two main ranges: a "made in USA" Custom Shop, which equips professionals today, and a "made in Asia" range, whose designs and manufacturing quality convince a growing number of guitarists in all styles.

This guitar is a prototype, a real one. Schecter makes custom guitars, and sometimes the Custom Shop tries things. We were interested in this one because it sounds great. The setup is that of a fairly classic Strat, with a few twists.

First of all, the body is made of Koa (mahogany): it is dense and powerful, releases a lot of bass and has remarkable sustain. The quality of the wood itself is exceptional, both acoustically and visually. As for the neck, it's quite typical: maple with a rosewood fingerboard, 22 frets, and a comfortable and familiar C-profile.

Then, the electronics offers a lot of possibilities: it's an HSS configuration (the pickups are Schecter Custom Shop), and 3 mini-switches from a specific Schecter system allow to control the sound. Each pickup can be set to tapped power, off, and full power, and give you access to a large number of combinations and tones for all styles, in all situations.
