Vigier is one of the brands with the most consistent production quality we know. Created by Patrice Vigier in 1980, it is a French Custom Shop that produces 400-500 high-end electric guitars and basses per year. Established in Grigny, Essonne, Vigier is known for incorporating technical innovations such as the 90/10 carbon-reinforced neck that no longer requires a truss-rod, the zero fret for a homogenous sound, and no friction a the nut, and the Vigier ball bearing system for the vibratos. In terms of lutherie, alder, maple, and ash come from French forests; rosewood comes from India, and mahogany is from Honduras. The woods are sorted, steamed, and then naturally dried for 3 to 7 years for perfect stability and resonance, and the fingerboard is machined within 1/100th of a millimeter. Each instrument is built impeccably, finished and tuned in the workshop, and delivered in a premium case.

The Excalibur is a guitar that comes in many versions, around the same foundation: a two-piece body of alder, a bolt-on maple neck with a very comfortable D-profile, a fingerboard radius of about 12" (because it's 300 mm), stainless steel frets, self-locking tuners, and flawless finishes. Depending on the fretboard, bridge type, and pickup configuration, the Excalibur can be a classic rock beast, a metal weapon, or a shred-machine. And the name is so cool!

An epitome of the Superstrat, this Excalibur Supra HSH with maple fingerboard is a wonder you rarely see. The Urban Blue finish is beautiful. The middle pickup is screwed down to the plate by default, which avoids banging the pick on it when playing (Steve Vaï sets his guitar like that precisely for this reason). The vibrato holds tuning perfectly. Soundwise, a trio of DiMarzio pickups with precise grain offers very articulated tones, where each note of a chord rings through even at very high gain. Whether you're following the devil or the angels, it's the perfect companion for the roads and highways of metal and rock.
