Founded in 1985 in Stevensville, Maryland, USA, PRS Guitars (named after its founder, luthier Paul Reed Smith), took up the daring challenge of designing and producing guitars that meet the challenge of offering instruments with uncompromising sonic versatility, exceptional playing comfort, and beauty and craftsmanship of the highest level. With models such as the McCarthy and Custom 24, PRS Guitars has made a stunning entry into the world of guitar building, which it now dominates by combining the qualities of the Stratocaster (vibrato, crystal-clear sound, mellow basses, playing comfort) and the Les Paul (creamy crunch, assertive mids, endless sustain and luxurious finishes), adding a character all of its own.
The Silver Sky PRS was designed by Paul Reed Smith and manufactured according to John Mayer specifications. At first glance, this guitar combines effects inspired by vintage models and the familiar curves of a Strat, as well as resolutely modern elements. The ultra-light alder body resonates particularly well, and the maple neck with a very dark rosewood fingerboard with super-tight grain (it looks like ebony) give it unparalleled resonance and playing comfort, and killer looks.
Sporting 22 frets made of a very resistant custom wire, and the typical PRS birds of prey inlays (Paul finally revealed that it is simply a tribute to the passion of his dear mother who was a bird watcher), the fingerboard is of an exceptional refinement. The neck profile, which replicates that of John Mayer's favorite vintage instruments, is relatively thin and offers a satiny touch that just sends chills down one’s spine.
The trio of 635JM single-coil pickups designed by PRS deliver warm, glassy tones with exemplary definition and articulation. The hum, although present, remains totally manageable, even at high gain levels. The classic style vibrato perfectly ensures tuning stability, even when pushed hard. A bone nut, vintage-style closed-back tuners with modern locking mechanisms and an inverted PRS head complement this amazing setup. Soft case included.
We propose it with a two year warranty from our workshop.
