Bourgeois guitars made in Lewiston, Maine are pure American acoustic guitars, built with unparalleled attention to detail. From the selection of woods to the hardware, each guitar is unique, and two guitars of the same model receive highly personalized attention that gives them a unique quality. The small team of craftsmen provides a particular life to these instruments, making compatible assortments to determine the tone of each guitar according to its size and shape. They are hand-carved, and each one benefits from the involvement of Dana Bourgeois himself at many stages of production, who carries out quality control of each piece.

The quality of Bourgeois' craftsmanship is embodied with great panache in this OM Vintage Ziricote from the Heirloom Series. It takes the sonic and aesthetic characteristics of the pre-war instruments to offer a guitar that not only pays homage to the Orchestra Models created by Martin, but exceeds them with a quality of construction that incorporates the lessons learned over the years.

This is an OM with an Adirondack spruce top, ziricote back and sides, 25.5" scale, Honduras mahogany neck, and ebony fingerboard. Ziricote is a dense Central American wood, which brings a lot of warmth in contrast with the top. The top is also scalloped in a technique specific to Bourgeois, providing great sound projection and volume.

When we first picked up this guitar, we thought that the woods would promote brilliance of sound, perhaps at the expense of warmth. What we particularly liked about this guitar was the way the clarity of the sound is balanced by a certain roundness, and that the bass remains present even if the advantage is clearly given to the mediums and the highs. Regardless of the playing techniques employed, this guitar lets the notes blossom with increasing beauty and sweetness across the space.
