Gropp Spezial Zeder
The town of Markneukirchen, where Armin and Mario Gropp were born and are still established. is a secular bastion of production of handcrafted musical instruments. This tradition goes back to the 17th century and spans until today: eighty percent of the eight thousand inhabitants of this small Vogtland village manufactures musical instruments for a living. It also is the hometown of Christian Frederick Martin, where he learned his trade before immigrating to the United States (and eventually establish, in 1833, the CF Martin & Co. factory, which still produces the most famous professional folk guitars in the world!).
Father and son, Armin and Mario Gropp produce hand-made concert guitars and historical plucked stringed instruments. The "Spezial" model is the flagship of this small fleet that does not compromise to fast profit. Each guitar is slowly made by hand, entirely by Mario - who lets his father to concentrating on the craft of historical instruments, craft that made him famous worldwide. You may want to know that before becoming a master luthier, Mario seriously contemplated a concertist's carreer. So when he plays one of his completed guitar, you may trust him!
This cedar top model has like all the Gropp guitars exceptional dynamics. In relation to this tonewood, its sound is warm but never dull. His ease of playing is superlative, since the man behind it is a top level musician- who appreciates the difficulties of the classical repertoire - has put all his expertise to facilitate the interpreter's playing. The fifteen coats of shellac varnish (open pores) allows the instrument to breathe and gives the finished instrument a very personal aspect. Its feather like weight will surprise you at first sight and will eventually make the two of you become body and soul for many years !
