For many enthusiasts, C.F. Martin & Co. has been creating the most beautiful guitars in the world for over 180 years. The company has innovated by using manufacturing techniques and features that have become standards, including the X-bracing, the fourteenth fret body/ neck joint and the Dreadnought format. Faithful to the founder's approach, the company continues to employ artisanal processes and a highly skilled workforce. Today, more contemporary designs and approach allow Martin to maintain its reputation as the world leader in professional acoustic guitar making, without sacrificing its core models and legendary quality.

It's hard to imagine how Martin could improve the D-18, the iconic Dreadnought that has made the day of folk music since its inception. Its sober and elegant finishes, its airy tone and the generally balanced sound over the entire range of the D-18 make it easy to record and mix. Some changes to this new version are, however, particularly interesting: an X-scalloped bracing shifted forward still brings a dose of warmth and resonance by increasing the propensity of the table to vibrate, in addition to providing more rigidity and support. Other changes include a beveled pickguard, an ebony fingerboard (instead of rosewood) and bridge, and open gear tuners, as well as an old school version of the logo on the head. Martin took up the challenge of renewing a classic without losing quality. A real update, successfully completed.
