Founded in the late 1970s by the late Bill Collings in Texas, Collings Guitars is the flagship of American manufacturing. While the brand now uses modern manufacturing processes, it makes no compromises: every element is carefully selected and every detail is given special attention, so much so that the quality of the models produced systematically exceeds that of the most renowned Custom Shops.
The Collings I-35 LC Faded Cherry is a fantastic hollow body by the brand that has decided never to miss anything. It exudes a sense of luxury and finesse that no other guitar has ever produced.
The classic shape and the proven combination of mahogany, maple and rosewood will have the desired effect: sustain, warmth and resonance are there. But here, it's so well done that there's a lot of other good stuff too. The neck and body are comfortable and absolutely classy. The craftsmanship is beautiful, one could even say refined: the materials are all noble, and the fittings are reliable and robust.
The mahogany is the best we have found since Gibson chose it for his mythical guitars. The body is made of laminated maple, which gives it better resonance and stability (we find that it sounds better than hollowed bodies). The body is magnificent, because the woods are really exceptional: the veins are dense and fine, like fur. The flamed top with elegant gills give this guitar a vintage/old fashioned flapping style and a lush harmonic richness.
The pickup dynamics (Throbak KZ115 for an authentic vintage vibe) offer a balanced response and a clear, precise sustain. In other words, whether you're playing lead or rhythm, this guitar is amazing. This is the best ES-335 we've ever played on in our lives. The classic layout of the controls (with volume and tone for each pickup) adds to the options for perfect tone. This guitar can do it all, but on one condition: it will do it well.
